Hey lovelies,
I just wanted to answer this question which I get quite a lot. Why did I choose to do medicine. Honestly I can only break them down into the following reasons.
- Childhood dream – I grew up admiring doctors a lot. Especially since I got hurt a lot as a child. I was involved in a car accident, had burns and had an accident with a refrigerator. Those are all stories for another time. Every time I went to the hospital they were really patient and kind to me, especially the pediatricians. They seemed to always have some sort of grace around them and made the job look easy. I now know it is not.!
2. Maths and Reading- I hate maths, hated it and still do. High school calculus just confirmed it to me. I was not ready in anyway to pursue business and for some weird reason I just loved science. I love reading and I actually got my love of writing from wanting to put down everything I read. I thought about branching into genetics to read biology and escape physics but well, here we are.
3. Helping Others – I know this is a bit cliché but it’s the truth. I wanted to be a source of help to others just as the doctors I had encountered at a young age had been. People become helpless when they become ill and they become very frantic and scared. I wanted to be in a position where I could be of help.
4. Curiosity – I wanted to know all I could about the human body. I wanted to know how digestion took place, why and how a baby goes from crawling to walking. I wanted to know.

You have to love and earn your white coat!
I know you might have been looking for some fantastic reasons. Sorry to burst your bubble but these were just it. Its a added bonus that its a prestigious career. I wouldn’t advice you to go into medicine if you don’t have a passion for it because its a very tiring profession. You basically don’t get to have a life for yourself unless of course you don’t get into medicine full time.
I’ll post a blog on life after medical school later. xo!
